Emporia city commissioners held a meeting on Wednesday. Over the course of the meeting, the commission approved several motions that stand to affect local laws, housing developments, and the overall quality of life for Emporia residents.
An $85,000 base bid from Emporia Construction for the "Tablets of Honor," an enhancement to the Emporia All Veterans Memorial, was approved by the commission after the city had granted $180,000 previously to the overall project. This enhancement includes a general restoration of the memorial as well as the addition of six granite tablets to be used for recording the names of anyone who served in the US Armed Forces. Assistant City Manager Jim Witt reaffirmed the city's commitment to the project and commented on its significance to the community.
